9 Steps For Mindful Work
To be mindful is to live in the present. A few of our followers have been asking how they can be mindful at work, so we thought we would share our tips...
Sounds like the easiest tip but so many people worry if they are breathing in enough or whether they are doing it wrong. Scrap away with that idea. Just follow your natural breathing cycle, but just be conscious of it. Focus on how good it makes you feel when you spend a little time consciously breathing.
Make your workspace comfy. Wear comfy clothes. You can get some pretty good options when it comes to smart yet comfy business attire. Invest. Now.
Ever heard of the saying clear desk, clear mind? Well, it works. Feel like you are stuck in a rut? Tidy and clean your workspace. Make it an inviting and inspiring place to be and then enjoy that space to its full potential.
Whatever your space whether it be a home office or a penthouse office with a view of the Thames make it your space. Surround yourself with inspiring things, position your desk in an area with lots of light, and happy things. Make your space work for you.
Tune Out Breaks
We are always doing something. We will be answering emails while talking to someone; we will be checking social media while we watch tv. We are always multi-tasking. This is why it is important to take some tune out breaks to do... well nothing. Listen to your personal needs, even something as little as applying hand cream and not doing anything else. Focus on the now and take a break!
Fresh air. It's not an innovative tip, but it's still worthy of our list. Take a long walk, take a short walk or even just stick your head out of the window... we don't recommend the latter. Be present when you take in the fresh air. Take notice. Is it a warm or a cool day, is it night or day?
Work To Your Clock
This is not a luxury we all have, but it is important to try and work in tune with your internal rhythm. Some of us are early birds and other night owls. Whatever you are, try to create a schedule that works for you. For most people, the 9-5 just won't cut it.
Feed The Hunger
By this, we do not just mean food. Feed your hunger, what is it that you want most? Spend time on reflecting on that, visualising it, living it. Discover your hunger and feed it! This also applies to food, eat when you are hungry and don't eat for the sake of it, just because it's lunchtime is not a reason to eat. However, we do advise that you make sure you are fuelling your body with the right foods, 10 sodas and 5 chocolate bars is not what we mean here...
Which leads me quite nicely on to my next point. Ensure your fill is not only tasty but does good things to your body and mind to.
