How To Overcome Your Fear In Business
Ok, so I am not entirely sure what made you click on this blog post. Perhaps it was curiosity, or maybe you are feeling somewhat fearful.
Either way, I am here to tell you that it’s ok. We get it; business is scary. There is so much to think about it. From clients to employees, even your email can be a daunting place.
But let’s simplify it for a moment.
All you are doing within in business is creating something someone wants, and then telling them about it.
Now we know there is, of course, more to it, but that’s all it really boils down to.
The fear that you are feeling is something you have learnt. You have learnt this fear. You were not born with it.
So how does that help you?
Well if you have learnt it, then you can learn something new, you can change that fear, you can rewire your brain.
When you face your fear you have two options:
Talk yourself out of it. Rationalise your fear.
You can remove the fear. Remove yourself out of the situation.
So for example, if we take the fact, you are always fearful of not being as successful as ‘x’ on Instagram...
You can talk yourself out of it. Give yourself a new way of thinking. You do not need to fear ‘x’ their success does not dampen yours nor does it mean you cannot both be successful.
Or you can remove the fear. Unfollow that person, take that out of your sight. A little like out of sight, out of mind.
But within business, it may not be so obvious. So the first thing you need to do is identify your fear. So here are some typical examples.
The fear of failure.
The fear of losing clients.
The fear of success.
The fear of ‘what if’.
The fear of making yourself look too big.
The fear of making yourself look too small.
You may know immediately what your fear is, but if not start journaling how you feel and what triggers it. After some deep diving, you should have a few ideas on where to start.
In this post, we are going to look at some of the most common fears in business, and we are going to give you another option. An alternative way of thinking.
Let’s start with the fear of failure. Quite a popular one.
The Fear of Failure.
Replace it with… I know with my mind, body and soul that I will succeed.
Back it up with… showing up, serving your purpose and working with action and intuition.
Understand that… you only fail when you quit. You have got this. The fear of failure is just an abstract idea that our ego does to keep us safe. Feel the fear and move through it, you will learn and grow.
The Fear of Losing Clients.
Replace it with… I only attract clients that know my value. Clients flow to me easily.
Back it up with… serving your clients in
Understand that… losing a client is inevitable at some point in your business. It may not be something you have done; they may just no longer require your service or product. KNOW that everything is energy, and if you keep placing your energy in the right places such as client happiness and business development, the rest will flow.
The Fear of Success...
Replace it with… success allows me to create opportunities for me, my family and others.
Back it up with… Practising the art of giving now. Give 10% of your profits away to a charitable cause. Get used to giving, and you will see the more successful you are and the more money you make, the more you can give and help others. By not serving your purpose you are doing an injustice to others.
Understand that… you have the power within you. You get to choose what you do with that power.
The fear of ‘What if’…
Replace it with… I have the knowledge to overcome any challenge that comes my way. Overcoming challenges allow me to up-level my life.
Back it up with… developing your knowledge. In your industry, and on your personal development.
Understand that… You cannot know the future but what you can do is develop and grow. Grow as a person, as a leader, as a friend.
The fear of making yourself look too big…
Replace it with… I am showing up for my clients and acting like the business I know I am. This is who I am and this is who my business is. I am not lying to my clients I am just showing up in a big way.
Back it up with… being transparent. Show up and serve your clients. Stop worrying and focusing on things that do not serve you.
Understand that… Everyone fears imposter syndrome at some point. You just have to know that you have got this far for a reason, and you are going to go even further.
The fear of making yourself look too small…
Replace it with… right now is the time to focus on serving my clients in an authentic way instead.
Back it up with…showing up consistently.
Understand that… People love authenticity. Being you is probably the thing that is attracting clients to you.
We hope that perhaps one of your fears is on this list and you can start working on eliminating that fear from your life. After all, it does not serve you.
But if not, take some of the key parts of this message and apply it to your own fear remember:
You are enough.
Fearful thoughts are learned.
Fear is abstract and does not serve you.
