How To Work In Flow State

When you are working in your flow state, you produce your most focused and high-quality work. But what is flow state and how do you get into it?

Flow state is essentially where you are so focused and working without resistance.

Unfortunately, we can rarely work in flow state all of the time, but there are ways to increase it!

In this post, we are going to share our top 3 ways to get into a flow state.

Find the best times you work at. We have said it before, and we will say it again, as it is something we really find to be true: everyone has their times in which they work best. For some, this is early morning, for others, it is the evening.

The Flow To Do List

This idea is simple. Write your to-do list. Colour code or mark it to indicate what type of energy level is required and how long it should take. This way, you can take on your difficult and time-consuming tasks when you have the energy to do it.

Discover Your Sound

Find out what sound you work best to. It may even depend on your mood. There are so many good 'focus' playlists on Apple Music, Spotify and Youtube. You may even find you work best to nature sounds or white noise. Find your jam and use it as part of your ‘getting into the flow’ ritual.

Create Your Habitat

I know I work well in two kinds of places:

Location Number 1: A Busy Coffee Shop

I like the buzz and the energy. Surprisingly I find it very easy to zone out when there is a lot going on.

Location Number 2: Somewhere Cosy

On the other end of the scale, I also like to work in silence or with soft music. With a blanket and a hot drink.

Oddly I need quiet if I am in this surrounding. Any repetitive noise will drive me insane.

It is all about finding what kinds of environments work for you.

Although it is perfectly fine to try and tap into your flow state, you should not try to force it. You cannot force flow state.  Try to optimise it and do not put any pressure on yourself!
