Have a code.

Following in the footsteps of the famous bullet journal we suggest you have a simple coding system for your tasks and events. The bullet journal coding system is very easy to adopt into your todo list. At a glance, you can see what is done, what still needs to be done and what needs to be scheduled. Having a to-do list that you can understand easily can save you a lot of time in the long run.

Categorise by energy levels.

I used to categorise my tasks by priority, and then one day 3 different sources told me to categorise my tasks by energy levels, including coach, Laura Payne - Stanley. So I gave it a go, and it did wonders to my productivity. You see instead of procrastinating I would simply pick a low energy task and start from there, more often than not this then got my head in the game, and I was able to concentrate on high energy tasks. It doesn't take long to colour code your to-do-list, but it's worth it!

Note a time estimate.

Giving yourself a time estimate helps you work to internal deadlines and can stop you from taking too long on tasks. Setting a time estimate also sets expectations and if you are the competitive type, a time estimate can make you less distracted as you need to complete the task in that amount of time. Be realistic, though; you will only be setting yourself up for disappointment if you give yourself too little time to do a task and remember the work needs to be of high quality! Alternatively, if I had a little spare time, I could see what task I could complete in that time, making spare time more productive.

Time yourself.

To be informed on how long a task will take you it is important that you start timing yourself and keeping a note of how long realistically things will take you. This tip can also keep you from getting distracted, as seeing a timer tick down can remind you how to concentrate and not check Facebook. Remember, if you see a task requires more time- allow yourself more time!

These simple tips can ensure your to-do list works best for you and not the other way around.
